JONES RESIDENCE
Joshua Tree, CA / designed 2005 / under construction 2009
the
design for a new residence on 45 acres in the high desert of joshua tree, california.
the
house will respond to the extremities of the local climate using the most current
ecologically sensitive systems and materials.

identical existing wood sheds with parabolic roofs will be repurposed into sleeping
and cooking/eating pavillions
the
space between them will be covered and enclosed to become a public gathering
area with a conversation pit
beyond
a wall of glass is a viewing terrace with steps down to the desert. the view
due east to the desceding high desert and mountains beyond
the
shower, bathroom and water storage will be housed in corrugated steel culverts
the
residence will back into the slope, a parabolic retaining wall will enclose
a protected desert garden
